This
website is dedicated to the Border Leicester Sheep. The sheep industry's
"Great Improver"- proven over 100 years as the ram best suited to
improving the quality of meat from upland and mountain ewe flocks.
These powerful, white faced, prick-eared sheep are bred throughout
the UK and have been exported to most countries in the world. The
breed has had enormous impact on the flocks of the Antipodean countries.
Inheriting fecundity the female daughters of the Border Leicester
are in great demand as low ground breeding stock. Most common are
the Scotch and Welsh Half Breds, bred from Cheviot and Welsh Mountain
ewes respectively. Male lambs easily meet packing plant specifications
making the Border Leicester the outstanding potential for all sheep
farmers.
All pedigree Border Leicesters are Maedi Visna Accredited and there
are major breed sales at Kelso, Lanark, Aberdeen and Builth Wells
each year. Stock is also available direct from breeders.
Read on through our site where you will find all sorts of interesting
information regarding the history, description and uses of the Border
Leicester. You will find pages of breeders and their locations and
lots of associated information.
